Linde Gas is a supplier of a wide range of industrial gases, medical gases and other chemicals. These can be supplied in portable high pressure cylinders, in liquefied form by tanker, or in gaseous form via pipeline to large customers.

Linde Engineering designs and builds large-scale chemical plants for the production of industrial gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen and carbon monoxide as well as large facilities associated with the processing and manufacturing LPG olefins.

History

The June 21, 1879, Professor Dr. Carl von Linde founded the Gesellschaft fr Eismaschinen Linde Aktiengesellschaft to further develop its work in the development of refrigeration mechanical systems for the brewing and food industry. After the success in this market, he moved to the development of low temperature systems in 1895 resulting in a patent covering the liquefaction of air. Out of this work his company has developed equipment for separating air and other gases. A first separation plant scale air was installed in Hllriegelskreuth, near Munich in 1903.

In addition to the air separation plant in 1906 engineers Linde, began working with others in the process of separating off the water gas. This work developed in the manufacturing capacity of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which were most key raw materials for the emerging chemical industry.

In addition to its interest in refrigeration, Carl von Linde has also partnered with Hugo Gldner and others in 1904 to form the Gldner Motoren-Gesellschaft mbH in Aschaffenburg. Linde took full ownership company in 1929, and from this origin developed a manufacturing business the first engines and tractors, and then from the 1950's, a range of equipment mechanical manipulation such as fork lift trucks. Linde has a complex history of takeovers, mergers and divestitures, and in 2000 completed the acquisition of AGA AB of Sweden. This was followed in 2004 with the sale of the original core of the company Linde - Refrigeration Division - For Carrier Corporation in the U.S.. In March 2006, Linde made a proposal to acquire BOC Group for 11.7 million dollars in cash. The acquisition was completed on 5 September 2006. Following the acquisition, the combined gas and engineering group was renamed as The Linde Group, and material handling activities separate and renamed as KION Group. It was also announced that the company BOC Edwards team would be sold.
