Brass Rods: Components, Features and Uses
Brass rods are the smallest metals produced in metal factories. They are slender bars of brass metals. They are made by blending metal elements together. Brass metals are made up of zinc and copper. Zinc enhances durability of brass. Copper, on the other hand, gives them brownish color. Other brass metals have a yellowish tone. Yellow-toned brass metals look like gold.
Brass rods are used in manufacturing screws, rivets and bolts. Screws are used in fastening metal pieces together. In aeronautics, they are used as lock for wheels and rims. Likewise, bolts in doors of airplanes, ships, and cars are made up of brass rods. In railroad construction, brass rods hold rail metals together. Modern railways have screws and nails composed of brass metals. Brass screws are more durable than ordinary iron nails.
Aside from durability, brass rods are less susceptible to corrosion. They contain tin, arsenic, and antimony. These lessen oxidation on brass surfaces. Hence, brass materials do not change appearance over time. They preserve smoothness and luster despite exposure to water and moisture. They are rust-resistant unlike ordinary metal compounds. Because of this, brass metals are also used as external decoration on house facades. Nowadays, downspouts and gutters are made up of different shapes of brass metals. These look like simple decorations on sidings of houses.
Moreover, brass rods contain iron. Iron is the strongest metal element. Iron content in brass compounds improves durability of brass metals. Brass rods are used as foundation support in building construction. Foundation posts in iron and steel structures have brass clips. Brass clips securely hold iron and steel together. Brass clips are more commonly used in large buildings such as skyscrapers, monuments, and statues.
Brass rods are used in electric systems. Brass metals have a strong insulation capacity. Therefore, they are used as connectors in computers and home appliances. Spare parts in televisions and radios are fastened by brass rods. In the same manner, telecommunication and phone systems use brass metals in attaching electric wires on street posts. In the United States, underground telecommunication posts have brass rod connections.
Suppliers and manufacturers produce brass rods in different sizes. Small rods are used in internal parts of appliances. Conversely, bigger rods are utilized in building construction and telecommunication installation. These metals are among the smallest items in brass factories. However, they have unmatchable functions in engineering and electronics.
