How do you compress the pistons on a 4 piston caliper?
I've done many brake jobs, but today I was helping a friend with his Toyota Tundra and it has 4 piston calipers and I've never encountered such a thing. also, let me know if you need a special tool.
I read the chiltons book, and on a Toyota Tundra you leave the caliper on the rotor, and one side at a time, use a pair of channel locks to compress the pistons with the old pad. then you install the new pad and repeat with the other side. Thats for anyone who reads this again.
They do make a tool to compress the pistons. However you can do the same thing with a block of wood and a couple of screwdrivers. Stick the wood in the caliper and use the screw drivers to push back the 2 pistons at the same time. Also, before you do this open the zerk fitting for the brake bleed, so you don't push the old fluid back into the system. good luck.
