How to calculate the strength to activate a cylinder in a vise?
I have a closing x ay and contact area between the nozzle and the cylinder. Any help?
The answer is independent of the contact zone, usually. You need to find the normal force to the cylinder provided by the collar. This, in turn, provide the frictional force between the clamp and the cylinder that prevents rotation. The greater the clamping force, the greater the force of friction. The breakaway torque needed to rotate the cylinder is exactly the force of friction multiplied by the radius of the cylinder.
