DVI: For high quality digital displays
The need for a transparent glass screen visual devices led to the production of new technologies, such as DVI. With DVI technology, producing high quality results for TV and projectors have been possible.
The idea of the digital display of the Working Group (DDWG) DVI (digital video interface) has dramatically altered the quality of image display devices, since the LCD computer monitors to projectors.
The need for DVI
Before DVI, the standard used was the Video Graphics Array (VGA), and was intended for use in CRT monitors. The process a basic source that emits the horizontal lines of the image, while changing the output voltage according to certain levels of brightness.
The CRT, which receives this transmission, changes in the electron beam while scanning the monitor screen.
This approach could not work with digital photography sample, since each pixel had to take samples to obtain an accurate indication.
DVI How Works
With digital video interface, distortion did not show a problem. Instead of simply adjusting the output voltage to determine the brightness, DVI is the brightness of each pixel and puts it into a code binary.
Using this method, all pixels in the source agrees well with the screen. This allows a noise and the screen without distortion.
DVI technology
The DVI uses a format based on the Serial Pnnel that uses transition minimized differential signaling (TMDS).
All wires in a DVI connector (red, green and blue and a clock signal) transmit 24 bits per pixel. At intervals, the video images sent line by line without any form packages. Another advantage of DVI is that it does not use any compression, which is a problem that affected the technology older.
DVI Links
A link DVI supports a maximum resolution of 2.6 mega pixels at 60Hz, but has the ability to use other links if the resolution will be much higher. So there are two modes, the only link for those monitors that require less than 2.6 megapixels, and dual-link mode for they need more megapixels. The dual binding mode is also claimed that more than 24 bits of pixel are needed.
DVI connectors
Unlike of LDVs and open LDI, DVI provides support for digital and analog transmissions. DVI connectors are so classified in the following: DVI-A (DVI analog), DVI-I (DVI digital and analog) and DVI-D (DVI digital). The DVI-D can, in some cases, working with HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface).
DVI Specifications
The minimum clock frequency is 25.175Mhz DVI, and its maximum is set at 165MHz. Dual-link mode however, the limit is set only by the cable. Pixels per clock cycle for the single player is one, and the double bond 2. The bits per pixel is fixed at 24 while in dual mode is 48.
DVI Display Modes
For single link, the following displays are possible:
HDTV (1920 × 1080) (60MHz), UXGA (1600 × 1200) (60MHz) SXGA (1280 × 1024) (159 MHz), WXGA + (1440 x 900) (107 MHz) and WQUXGA (3840 × 2400) (164 MHz)
For the double bonds:
QXGA (2048 × 1536) (2 x 170 MHz), HDTV (1920 × 1080) (2 x 126 MHz); WQXGA (2560 × 1600) (2x174 MHz); WQXGA (2560 × 1600) (2x135 MHz) and (WQUXGA (3840 × 2400) (2x159 MHz)
