Physics project!!?
I have this physics project that is due on monday. We have to indirectly measure a lamp post just outside this building.
We have these materials to use:
• pencil, paper, scotch tape
• a long tape rule
• a digital timer with 1/100th sec. accuracy
• a baseball and mitt
• meter sticks
• a protractor
I have no clue how to even start
Any suggestions?

The lamp is far too tall for me to climb..so dropping a ball from the lamp's height is not going to work. 
Perhaps you could drop the baseball from the same height of the lamp post and measure the length of time it takes the ball to hit the ground and then use gravity and time to determine the amount of distance travelled.
Or maybe you could run the scotch tape from the top of the pole to the a point (x) ft from the pole then measure the scotch tape, and using the two lengths and the pythagorean theorem to determine the other leg of the triangle that is created.
OR you could stand the pencil parallel to the pole... Then measure the shadow of the pencil and versus the length of the pencil and measure the length of the shadow created by the post and they would be proportional.
