Foot Care of Your Baby: What to do and what to look out for

The human foot is designed for a lifetime of use and support. You can often be the difference between an active and enjoyable life, or maimed by discomfort and limitation. Fortunately, most people experience only minor problems foot or temporarily during their lifetime. The time when the foot begins to develop during infancy and early childhood is essential to ensure healthy feet in adulthood. In this article will discuss some of the ways parents can ensure the proper development of the feet, and what to look out for that might indicate a developmental problem.

The human foot development begins in the embryonic stage and continues throughout the time spent in the womb. When a baby is born, all components that the foot needs to function properly are generally present, with the exception of several bones cartilage only at that point. In general, infrastructure complete is there, and the foot just to strengthen, grow and create bone over time. The body has an amazing ability to do this by itself and needs little foreign aid. Parents have the ability to enhance this development, and may play a role in ensuring proper development. One of the easiest ways to support this development is to let the baby kick and move their legs. leg strength, the large muscle development and movement in general have a positive effect on the appropriate role foot in the future, as a leg malfunction will lead to poor foot function. To support this motion, parents should keep their babies uncovered and without restrictions, allowing the legs to kick. This enhances and strengthens the hips, knees, ankles and foot joints, and help the muscle and coordination to grow.

Similarly, the restriction should be placed low on the feet at this time. Babies who do not walk do not need protective footwear, such as Shoes may restrict the natural development of foot structure and the internal force of the foot. During early childhood, the foot remains a bit flexible, and ill-fitting shoes have the potential to cause foot deformities. Once you start walking, shoes should be avoided even for a short time as the foot pressure needed for direct land stimulate the development of strength and structural stability. Of course, walking on rough or hazardous surfaces outside the home, the child will need protective footwear. All walking home security should be done without shoes to promote proper foot development. When the shoes must be worn, they need to be tight, with enough space to fit your foot without being too big. Trying to push a little foot in a tight shoe can be detrimental to development, and trying to use a big shoe 'to become' can lead to instability and injury.

Walking should not be forced into a baby. There is no set age development of walking, as everyone comes to this wonderful milestone on several occasions. Parents should not use the time of a sibling or child of a friend as a reference for to when your child should start to walk, and you just have to let this process occur on their own, when the baby is ready. Given this, any decision for a long time to walk, for example, 24 months, should prompt a medical evaluation to determine if a problem keeping the child from walking. This is unusual, however, and most parents should be patient and let your baby develop this capability for themselves.

In addition to allowing the movement and reduce restrictions on shoes, foot of a baby is easy to clean. Nails should be trimmed regularly and carefully, and the skin should be kept clean and dry. Socks should be used when it is cold outside, we must be careful to keep hair strands that wrap around the little fingers, like a long piece hair could strangle a toe if wrapped tight enough. Sharp materials and hot objects such as a heater should be kept away from contact.

One of the biggest concerns parents have about your baby's feet are the presence of deformities that can lead to problems in the future. severe deformities of the feet are common at birth, and is usually noticed immediately after birth in the hospital. Some deformities take the time to be noticeable, but the most significant are more immediately visible. Babies can be born with a variety of foot deformities, most of which can be corrected. These may include rotational deformities, such as clubfoot (turning the foot inward) or congenital calcaneovalgus / vertical talus (foot turning to the outside). Both need correction deformities to avoid weakening immediate future, and usually successfully cured with casting and bracing or corrective surgery for early release ligaments tense and return the foot to correct positioning. extra toes are sometimes present, which can be removed later for cosmetic appeal or to ensure adaptation of appropriate footwear. Shortly after birth, a condition called metatarsus adductus can see where the foot is in the form of C, and metatarsal bones are turned over too far inward. This can be corrected with casting, braces, special shoes, or surgery if the deformity is not addressed to more later in childhood. A certain level of this deformity can be considered normal, but if you notice outside is likely that in the abnormal range.

Once the child begins to walk, certain deformities can see that not noticed before. This includes most internal rotation of the legs, or less often than external rotation. Also toeing is called, this condition is not unusual. Most cases are simply due to uneven development of the leg muscle, and resolve by themselves. Some cases, however, due to a deformity of the hip, thigh, or lower leg bone, and the need for aggressive therapy or braces to reduce the deformity, or surgery to de-rotate the bone.

As the child begins to walk again, a concern that many parents have is whether their child is flat-footed. All children with normal foot structure have flat feet and flexible. The arch structure of the foot develops slowly strengthened. At first, children walking with flat feet, and gradually get a normal arch structure as they begin to walk with a normal gait pattern from heel to toe at the age of four or five. If the foot looks too flat the beginning, or if the arch is not training, then the child may be unaware. This is not necessarily a deformity in the strict sense, but because our society need to use shoes to protect us from environmental damage (as opposed to traditional tribal cultures in natural environments), which tend to have weak feet that do not fit well for flat feet in the future. Therefore, the prescription of arch supports are usually used in patients with foot level to prevent or delay future foot stress and deformation which formed from the instability of flat feet such as bunions and hammertoes. Some children to developing bunions and hammertoes very early, and they can even be seen during childhood in some cases. corrective surgery is generally delayed until the skeleton is more developed, and usually do not raise these deformities early.

High arches are another deformity seen in children and childhood. This is not a rare foot deformity develops during childhood and adolescence, and usually only need a better shock absorber in place. However, the presence of this deformity in infancy and early childhood often accompanies the birth defects that affect the nervous system and muscular structure, but these diseases are often first observed.

A final cause of development so that parents are often concerned when the child walks on his feet. walking on tiptoe, as is known, is usually a benign habit that the child should be encouraged to break. In this case, the child will be able to stand flat feet but chose to either consciously or unconsciously, to walk with heels on the floor. constant reminders in the home and physical therapy (sometimes difficult) can be used to correct this. Other cases are due to real structural problems, including the Achilles tendon tension, muscle spasticity of the hind legs, or neuromuscular disease. These causes must be addressed individually, and it is possible that a variety of treatment that may include therapy, medication, surgery or Botox injections.

As you can see, the feet of a baby is an extraordinary thing, and usually develops very well in himself. Parents are in a good position to encourage this trend by following the above advice. Deformities that affect the future ability of the foot to function properly are relatively uncommon in infants and young children, but can be corrected in almost all cases when present. As parents, you must be alert to any abnormalities, but also recognize that the breeding stock needs time to develop properly and grow, and many children's early development is often referred to corrected.
