What is a Flow Controller and How Can it Help Me?
What is meant by the term "flow controller"? A flow controller is a chamber that combines an integral base with side walls. The idea is to provide a provision for inlet and outlet connections. It is commonly used in construction and home design as a silt trap. It can also be used as a valve chamber or as a flow rate controller. This type of device can control the flow of liquid at a particular range of rate.
One of the most common uses of a flow controller is to limit stormwater outflow. The system will limit the rate of discharge, so that local buildings are not put at risk when flooding is imminent. Some of the best units are now self-activating and have certified flow rates. This controlling feature, made possible by hydraulics, does not require any internal moving pieces. At low rates, stormwater can enter through the inlet and go out through the outlet without any restriction. However, when the flow rate increases because of increased rainfall, enough energy is created to cause a vortex in the chamber. This creates a pressure drop, which restricts the release.
The fact that these new flow controller devices are automatic and have no moving parts is impressive enough. What's even more amazing though, is that these systems do not need an external power source, such as a generator. What are some other benefits to look forward to?
New age mass controllers can be custom-created to match a certain flow rate, and from any height desired. These devices are also self-activated so there is no need to sacrifice your time or safety during a storm. Furthermore, these devices are self-cleaning and easy to install. There are also hydraulic options and a manual by-pass feature that can be useful. How is such a system used?
A flow controller is commonly used for its valve feature; it can control the flow (rainwater current) from a nasty storm. It can also control the flow from stormwater attenuation tanks. This ability prevents flooding in localized areas, even during intense storms. If you have concerns about flooding then look into rainwater attenuation. Not only can it protect you from flooding, but it can also protect you from contamination because of silt-filled rainwater.
A flow controller can protect you and your property from heavy rainfall. For more information on this device, look up a construction company near your area.
