need general info on dispensing co2 carbon dioxide for a non conforming usage - insect attractant bed bugs?
carbon dixoide attracts certian insects, i am seeking a way to dispense minute amounts of it perhaps with a timed device over a period of less than 10 hours at a time, or perhaps constantly. Is it flammable? i saw where an aquarium device dispense's it in the water for plants, the device was not expensive either. i want to attract certian insects into a trap to monitor thier levels, perhaps from a whippet type container- i want to release it into the air - any ideas on how (or mostly what) i could accomplish this with? i know they have them for mosquitos... i want to use this for bed bugs inside a building so it has to be safe. e mail me at; cnidad at yahoo dc THANKS!
It certainly isn't flammable, considering it is used in fire extinguishers where water is not suitable (electrical fires or flammable liquids that are less dense than water and float on it, like gasoline)
It is much denser than air so it tends to sink to the floor level, so you may want to put your trap on the floor.
It is dangerous to health in confined spaces in relatively low concentrations. The human body (and probably other animals) monitors the level of CO2 in the lungs as part of the automatic control of breathing rate. CO2 levels above 2% in the atmosphere cause medical symptoms (the natural level in air is about 0.035%) and 5% is severely toxic. So whatever system you use, it needs to be failsafe!
