2001 Citroen Xsara 1.4 - Brake discs and pads replaced - now rectified?
Recently had front disc brakes and replacing pads. Within months of vibration and grinding noise appeared. Took car back to the garage who diagnosed warping and replaced under warranty. A few months later, the same problem and same solution, but garage unable to say what was causing problems. The squeaking has started again - can anyone offer suggestions as to what could be / Cause center garage, etc. Apparently proven, tweezers, etc and all good. The noise only happen under braking. Car recently passed MOT between outbreaks in the grinding!
When you have installed new brake pads, take time to 'bed' in (200 - 300 miles worth of driving). During this time you should never brake hard, as it could lead to an uneven surface pads that can damage the disc. If you're driving the car at a speed it does'nt take much to warp the disc since this car has high performance brakes. Saying this should not cause warping polished sound will cause a vibration that can be felt through the brake pedal when braking. Are you sure the grind is the front brake, do you have drum brakes in the rear? Remove the drum and clean the shoes and wheel cylinders check for any leaks in rubber seals. Use some sandpaper on the drum to eliminate the cuts (in a garage charged around £ 60 for this) If you are 100% sure that the noise is only heard at the last minute?
