how do I remove mildew spots from a hat?
I found a hat that my husband used to love and it got lost in storage for a few years. He was so excited that I found it, but it has mildew spots now. I tried scrubbing them out with dish soap and a scrub brush, but it didn't work. The fabric is a light green, so I can't bleach it but I don't have to worry about fading or bleeding of the color. How can I get this hat clean?
White vinegar gets rid of mildew and won't bleach it. Spray vinegar on the spots, let sit for a while, then scrub spots with a toothbrush dipped in salt/water mixture. Rinse off and repeat if necessary. Dry in the sun
