Possible Candidates of Knee Replacement: Causes and Symptoms

The implants are always cemented to the bone using special bone cement that ensures fixation of the implants. Minimally Invasive total knee replacements are done using a small incision that avoids cutting into any muscle, which was done in the past. Patients can usually start walking the next day after surgery and usually in two weeks walk in the office with a cane for suture removal.

Older studies indicated very poor results of the partial knee replacement, but these results are thought to be due to poor patient selection. If the minimally invasive procedure is done on a patient with too widespread arthritis, the results are very likely to be less than satisfactory. If this is the case, further conservative treatment for example injections, physical therapy, medications, etc. or total knee surgery can be considered. A primary concern about the minimally invasive surgical techniques is that limited exposure will lead to increased complications that jeopardize the long-term outcome of the arthroplastry.
