Question about carbon coating razor blades?
I just bought a diamond series Remington R510 Shaver Men's rotation having diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated cutters. I sent an email to Remington asked what type of DLC used in this shaver and I said it was PVD DLC that really only tells me how the coating is placed on stainless steel blades but does not tell me which of the 7 types of DLC is used by such as tetrahedral amorphous carbon film free hydrogen or whatever. This website: http://www.ist.fraunhofer.de/english/cp ... gives a table of the different types of coating. What do you think using my razor and is generally thought that there is some risk, even if the blades are worn or damaged it is possible that fragments of the cutters to get through the shaving heads (while shaving) and present a risk of ingestion?
I'm tempted to say that the only way to eat is if you shave your tongue .... but I will not. The amount of DLC in razor blades corresponding to a fraction of a microgram. Would to be very toxic to no effect at this level, and I can not find any suggestion that it is harmful in any case at all. If you are referring to its division into inside parts, the answer is again negative. The layer is 2 microns thick, so any loose fragments would be about the same order of size of a globule red.
