What type of lights do i use to grow LPS and SPS saltwater corals?
i am setting up a 75 gallon reef tank with a 20 gallon sump can i use a T-5 fixture {432 watts 8-54 watt} or should i got with 2 -150w Mh or even 2- 250w MH. if i use the T5 fixture am i limited on what i can grow in my tank?

"T-5 and MH are pretty close on the scale, I would rate 2 250w MH and 8x54w T-5 as the same. If you want anemones and other high light stuff they will do as good in equal wattage T-5 as in MH. With an 8x54w setup, you could grow whatever you want under any of that lighting.
I'm more of the mind-set that a quality fixture and T-5's would suit you better. If you can get a fixture with individual reflectors in it and run at least 6 if not 8 54W T-5's I think you'll be better off in the long run. Here's why...
-Replacement cost for bulbs is less (about $15-$20 a piece, unlike $50-$100 MH bulbs)
-With 8 T-5's you can mix and match bulbs to find the perfect combination. (you can experimenting with MH's, but at that price range, it can be quite expensive.)
-Energy Used is less
-Heat produced is less (possibly no chiller required which equals potentially less energy used)
With a quality fixture and good bulbs you'll get great color and growth from your tank. A few years ago this was considered impossible, but advances in bulb and reflectors have made this not only possible but practical and more Main Stream.
With what your looking at, it all comes down to preference. Many people like MH's because they run a crisp sunlight look. But T-5's run a lot less energy, and lower heat. Also consider many people like to supplement their MH's with T-5's to get more of the "Actinic/Blue" colors to pop."
