Question about welding from a beginner?
What am I doing wrong if everything I try to weld turns to beads rather than welded seams? I am using a home version of a wire welder. I never get molten metal, but rather little beads at the weld spot.

I am using the wire that came with it. Maybe it is feeding too fast. I appreciate the video site i am going to study that.
Chances are you have a cheap Mig welder. I am a certified welder and use wire processes all the time and can make beautiful beads in any position, but whenever someone wants me to use their $300 bottom shelf welder all i get is a metal deposit that looks like bird shit(seriously its the best description). So, i have came to the conclusion it is a cheaply made welder that is usually the problem. Things to check tho are your wirespeed and voltages, baseline settings for most GMAW machines is 18.0 volts and 180 inches per minute(wire). If your machine does not have voltage and wire speed controls then it is garbage(unfortuantly welders are one thing you get what you pay for).
Also, you could be trying to weld solid wire without any gas which will leave a bead full of porosity. Self-shielding wires are garbage, even flux-core which forms a flux like stick welds uses a shielding gas(or should).
Try adjusting the drive roll tension also, maybe the drive rolls(wheels that feed wire from spool into liner) are tight enough that they do not slip while feeding the wire. Another possibility is that the power supply for the welder or the voltage is too low, making the wire "tick" off the metal before it arcs. The contact tip may be too lose and not transferring electricity to the wire well too or the liner may be dirty which is stopping the wire from feeding correctly.
You can look into all those things but i think your problem is probably just a cheap welder.
