In my opinion the highlight of camera accessories for Canon digital cameras is the force extension vertical, sometimes called a battery grip. In fact I've been a big fan of this particular camera accessory that all the cameras I've had since the mid 90 had a vertical extension added grip - the film and digital cameras both.
OK, So what is an extension grip vertical? Glad you asked! A vertical grip extension is a digital camera accessory that provides an additional handle and attaches to the bottom a digital SLR camera. That's right, it makes the camera bigger. But that's not all as the grip can have not one but two camera batteries so that the camera is also heavier on the spot. Both larger and heavier, that's all as anti-compact as a camera can achieve.
So who in their right mind would want added this thick? Well, not to take anything away from your state of mind, but I think so - they just do not know yet.
If you jump up a paragraph or two I remember you told me some comfort and performance. A vertical extension grip does offer improvements in both.
We will address performance in the first place because that's easy. Two batteries charged at the same time means double the shots between charges, and that obvious upside. However, when you add a vertical grip and a second battery for the camera model some cameras suddenly run faster. Six jump shot image frames per second at 9 frames per second. Not bad, twice the speed of shots on a 50% faster than before. You can shoot football games almost every day.
Now comes the convenience of the declaration. Could argue that the double shooting time between charges is convenient but I will not. The real convenience lies in how particular digital camera accessory changes as the photographer owns and operates the camera.
With the grip accessory attached to the photographer immediately notice that the handle has a second shutter button. Now, when camera is triggered in vertical (portrait) a shutter button is placed exactly where the right index falls. No more time is needed to break the wrist and scope over the top of the camera to shoot vertically. The wrist is kept straight support the creation of a more stable and with much less stress and fatigue caused by a hand grip uncomfortable.
If you have fired more than a dozen portrait images in a row without grip extension I think you can see how this change in the way of holding the camera would be a relief.
And as they say on television the night - "But wait there's more!" Not only the vertical grip to help improve the operation of the camera, so the vertical direction, offering an alternative shutter button also doubles the back of the camera buttons are located behind the regular trigger. You know those two buttons under your right thumb when using the button regular shutter? (AE and AF Lock Select point, but more in the past) Well, are exactly duplicated on the back of the vertical grip still fall right thumb upright.
Basically, a vertical handle allows a photographer to operate the camera in vertical (portrait) while holding the camera in a natural and stable. And since the control wheel and buttons are duplicated in the exact same ratio as in the grip body of the photographer's camera fingers feel like home.
