what kind of mig welder should i get,and what are Arc welders used for?
OK I am in the market to buy a Mig welder I saw a Lincoln 180 amp 220 volt but don’t know if it is going to work for me I want to use it for a lot of things like building gates, hall trailers and I also plan to build a sand rail but some people tell me it will not work for
That and need to get a better one, what will work for me? And if I was to buy the 180 amp and also an arc welder can i use it for some of the things I mentioned? Also I am not that experienced with welding but I am only 24 and have the time and passion to learn this art
I just don’t want to buy something that I will have to upgrade a year later cuz it wont do a project that I need it to, but at the same time I don’t want to kill my wallet so I am asking for your opinion what will work for me? Also what’s better continues or tap? I saw this for some of the welder options
A mig machine would probably do you best but you would want to stay with a well known line. Miller, Lincoln, Hobart. They are all about the same. Don't go the cheep route!! I have seen a lot of friends go the cheep rout only to get frustrated and go out and get the good machines (Miller,Lincoln,Hobart) You will need a bottle of gas get a 75/25 mix (75% argon, 25% co2. Do not use pure co2 as it will cause you more headaches down the road with the weld integrity. Look for a machine around 200 to 250 amps output. Get some anti spatter spray, nozzle dip, mig pliers and spool of wire and have fun! You may want to stock up on nozzles, tips and a spare liner but it's not necessary right away. One thing to remember is mig requires your metal to be clean. the less paint the better, no heavy rust scale.
